For the past 6 weeks, Horizonites have been busy working on their own startup ideas or taking on projects for existing startups. Below we showcase a handful of the amazing products they have built!

PROJECT #1: CORTEX

What it is (www.cortexgame.com)

Cortex Game is our team’s modern take on dual n-back, a scientifically-supported method for exercising working memory and increasing fluid-intelligence (IQ). The game is naturally difficult, which is why it is so effective, however the idea for Cortex was to take the core elements from current dual n-back research tools and to gamify the experience to make it fun, engaging and easier to learn. By focusing on a clean game design and adding core features such as a tutorial, leaderboards and statistics, we hope that players will enjoy the challenge and be able to play, compete and raise their IQ all at once.

How it was made

The game was built on the React.js framework using FlexBox CSS styling. Although the game is currently optimized for a mobile browser experience, further down the road we may choose to develop complete iOS and Android applications using React Native.

PROJECT #2: CLINKY

What it is

Horizonites to built the MVP iOS app for Clinky, a Philadelphia based startup.

Clinky is a mobile app that allows users to see nightlife activities in their area real-time. Finding the right bars, clubs, restaurants, and music venues has become increasingly difficult over time. Clinky makes this world easier to navigate. Open Clinky and see an Uber-like map interface that shows all the “poppin” events around you. See where your friends are going. You can also check-in and review a venue to unlock special deals/offers.

How it was made

Clinky was built using React Native on a Node.js server

PROJECT #3: XAVIER

What it is

Xavier is a technology that allows you to control your mouse with your eye movements. That’s right!

People with certain disabilities find it increasingly difficult to interact with software through physical devices such as keyboards and mice. As human technology interaction continues to evolve, products like Xavier will become more mainstream.

How it was made

Node.js server

Gazer.js API to take eye movement and map to mouse coordinates

Electron to take the data from the browser and send it to the desktop

Data streamed from Electron to a robot mouse built on Arduino.

PROJECT #4: TEAM 10 DASHBOARD

What it is

Jake Paul (popular social media icon and Vine star with over 1 billion views) asked Horizons to help him build a dashboard to track relevant metrics across social media platforms. Jake has created his own “social media label” and has a group of influencers (Team 10) on board.

The Team 10 dashboard allows Jake to monitor the progress of his teammates by viewing likes, views, shares and retweets. Jake can also set triggers to remind members of Team 10 to update certain social media platforms if engagement starts to trend downward.

How it was made

Application: Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB

APIs: Facebook API, Twitter API, Vine API, YouTube API, Instagram API

PROJECT #5: OPTIMIZELY TAG MANAGER

What it is

Optimizely is an experience optimization platform enabling A/B and multivariate testing for users to enhance their websites & mobile apps. Optimizely has raised >$146 million to date. Horizonites built an Optimizely app that gives any Optimizely customers an out-of-the-box tag manager.

Tag Managers allow marketers to manage 3rd party Javascript tags on their sites without needing the help of developers. Examples of common 3rd party Javascript tags include Google Analytics and Facebook tracking pixels.

How it was made

This project was built using React.js, MongoDB, Express.js, Node.js, and Javascript. We worked with Optimizely’s REST API and built one of Optimizely’s first ever 3rd party developer apps.

PROJECT #6: TRIVIANOTE

What it is

Trivia Note is a Philadelphia based startup with an existing Web Application. They brought on Horizonites to build their iOS and Android apps.

TriviaNote is essentially competitive Quizlet. You take notes through the web app and then turn those notes into self-quizzes, live challenge friends, and compare stats! It gamifies the note-taking/studying experience.

How it was built

We built this with React Native and free VitaminWater!

PROJECT #7: Q

by Will Yoo, Sean Park, Caitlin Rubin, and Sam Lee

What it is

Q is a AI-based Slack bot that manages files and organizes meetings for groups easily by integrating with Google Drive and Calendar.

How it was made

The bot was built entirely in Node.js using the Wit.ai API.

PROJECT #8: Ahora

What it is (ahorazorg.herokuapp.com)

Ahora is platform that connects you with homecare providers with your elderly loved ones. You can book appointments, scheduled periodic check-ins, and see detailed reviews.

Ahora is currently in the midst of launching and fundraising in Europe!

How it was made

Frontend: jQuery, Bootstrap

Backend: Express.js, Node.js

Database: MongoDB

PROJECT #9: Vet It

What it is (vetit.herokuapp.com)

Vet It is a job review site for veterans — think Glassdoor for veterans. Vet It allows employers and educators to create profiles, upload job postings, and create branded content. Veterans can search for jobs, browse company reviews/job reviews, and connect with employers.

How it was made

Frontend: jQuery, Bootstrap

Backend: Express.js, Node.js

Database: MongoDB
